ON-SET CREW INFORMATION

REVIEW ROLES BELOW. CHECK IN WITH THE COORDINATOR ON ARRIVAL VIA RADIO OR CELL PHONE.

PLEASE CARRY ALL DAY:

  • Charged Radio, Charged Cell Phone, Cosby Crew PFD - zipped up, Knife, E-Tape, Sash, C-Wrench, Headlamp, Water Bottle - arrive with what you can and communicate if you are missing anything.

PLEASE HAVE AVAILABLE:

  • Appropriate Clothing and Gear - Warm and Dry - Plan for the unexpected - rain gear, warm gear, dry gear, sun gear.

  • Cell Phone Charger

  • Specific Gear - if needed - e.g. mask, fins, wetsuit, drysuit, throw bag etc.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Be reachable. Always. Communication is essential.

  • Radio charged, turned on, correct channel - no radio? Use your phone.

  • Download WhatsApp - its free

  • We take direction from the Coordinator or Set Lead only. Confirm any requests made of you before acting.

  • Leave your phone on after wrap, we may need to reach you.

THINGS TO REMEMBER…

  • Park at Crew Park - Location is on the Call Sheet attached to Jeff’s email

  • Morning crew meeting on set - Arrive on set geared up at your call time from Jeff’s email. Give yourself enough time for crew park and breakfast.

  • Take care of yourself - our days can be long, water, sunscreen, food etc are readily available - be prepared.

  • Start Pack - Paperwork required for each show. Check with Sam or the Coordinator if you haven’t received one by wrap.

  • Check tides and weather - Good options: AyeTides, Environment Canada, Windy.

  • Be familiar with this page - Your role may change, including to possibly more than one role at a time.

  • Crosby Marine is a professional safety organization - Please stay professional

Deckhand

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work Day

    • Work with the Boat Operator and communicate closely. Tying lines, landing transfers, fenders.

    • Take direction from the Boat Operator.

    • Assist Marine Department as needed.

  • Communication

    • Be reachable. Always. Radio or phone. Check both often.

    • Report accidents to gear or personnel - its ok, they happen

    • Confirm your tasks when complete AND when not complete

    • Ask if you are unsure

  • Safety

    • Our #1 Priority, individually and as a team.

    • Communicate and Act on any safety concerns.

    • Passengers - make them aware. When it is safe. When it is not. Help them be safe.

    • Life Jackets - distribution, enforce policy, collection at end of day

  • Awareness

    • Keep things tidy - gear stash, boats, yourself

    • Observe - Passengers. Hazards - in the water and on the vessel.

    • Avoid being idle and gathering close to set

    • Anticipate what’s next. What gear do I need next?

    • Set Ettiquette - Give space to the area around camera, quiet voices, radio volume down during camera roll or wear headset

  • Wrap

    • Complete wrap with Marine Crew. Wrap directions come from Set Lead or Coordinator

    • On boats, remove garbage. Assist Boat Operator.

Boat Operator

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Boat Operating

    • Know the Deckhand’s responisbilites. Work with your deckhand.

    • Operate with care. The vessel is your responsibility

    • No wake when possible

    • Know how to operate the systems on your vessel and ask if you don’t know

    • Movement orders come from the Coordinator only.

    • Work with your deckhand to safely land, tie and fender your vessel.

    • Monitor vessel fuel - communicate if below 50%

    • Stay heads up, observe and listen, anticipate the next move and wait for instructions.

  • Communication

    • Be reachable. Always. Radio or phone. Check both often. Typically channel 67 or 68

    • Communicate with your deckhand. Plan movements and landings together ahead of time. The Deckhand is looking at you for direction.

    • Confirm any requests of you or your vessel on the radio with the Coordinator or Set Lead before acting.

  • Safety

    • Our #1 Priority, individually and as a team.

    • Know safety gear location - fire extinguisher, safety kit, first aid kit, life jackets

  • Passengers

    • Passenger Safety Brief:

      • Life Jackets manadtory on support vessels

      • Mind Balance - i.e. stay seated when possible, boats are in motion all the time.

      • Board or exit vessel with Boat Operator permission only

    • Observe - Passengers behaving safely. Act if not.

    • Communicate about vessel movements - especially wakes and waves

    • Utilize the Deckhand to help with passengers.

  • Wrap

    • No garbage on your vessel.

    • Check stock. Reference stock card. Restock if possible.

    • End of Day Vessel Summary: Send a message to the thread including:

      • Fuel Level

      • Shut Down confirmed (night switches)

      • Vessel Location

      • Missing Stock

      • Maintenance Issues

Set Lead

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work Day

    • Help Coordinator oversee the set, crew and gear.

    • Fill in for the Coordinator on set when the Coordinator is pulled away.

    • Know the Deckhand and Boat Op Responsibilities

    • Radios - distribute, track, collect at end of day

    • Times - Wrap Times, Official Lunch

    • Photos - Ensure useable setup, gear, and crew photos get in the thread.

  • Communication

    • Begin the daily thread including Jason and all crew listed on Jeff’s email.

    • Assist with monitoring set radio, if needed

    • Help with communication. Monitor Crosby Radios, the daily thread. Help with missing messages.

  • Awareness

    • Be aware of the flow of set. Setup, Rehearsal, Shoot, Repeat. Anticipate what’s next for the Marine Crew.

    • Help the less experienced.

      • Set Etiquette, Radio Etiquette and use

      • Prepare crew for what’s next when you can

    • Know the full SMS - help our crew who may not.

  • Wrap

    • Set Lead is responsible for Wrap. Get wrap details from Coordinator. Direct Marine Crew.

    • Wrap Times for all crew sent to Sam

    • End of Day Summary: Send an email to the Coordinator and Jason confirming the day and what you were asked to do for wrap.

      • Include anything missing (gear?) or not completed

      • Anything to be aware of for the next day

Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work Day

    • Lead for all on-set Marine Operations

    • Lead marine safety officer for the Production

    • Marine contact for the 1st AD

    • Conduct the morning meeting, to inform the Marine Department as much as possible about the day. Including:

      • Details about the Setup - what are we doing.

      • Role Assignments

      • Lifejacket Policy

      • Missing crew gear

      • Reminder to review these responsibilities at crosbymarine.com/ops. Point out things we have been missing.

  • Communication

    • Always on set-radio channel 1. Always on Crosby radios.

    • Conduct the Marine Department, gear and crew using radio.

    • Keep Jason updated.

  • Awareness

    • Be aware of the flow of set.

    • Anticipate and help Production make decisions

  • Wrap

    • Sets wrap in motion with the Set Lead and communicates the needs for tomorrow.
